What's that sound?

Some of you have obviously been listening to the clip of the new TAC piece 'New Dimensions In' on the lovingly-redesigned Ghost Box website, as I have been reading your letters; many asking me 'what on earth is that percussion sound, somewhere between a scrape, a howl and an echo?'. Well... it's what I've called the Eggofon. It's basically a mic'd-up egg slicer. It's plucked in a certain way and has an artificially-added tail, courtesy of a generous dollop of analogue echo. So there it is.

I request that everyone retreat to their kitchens, find weird objects that make a good racket and record them. Create!

  1. I remember when my parents got one o' them things and I instantly discovered it's interesting sound. Sadly, I am lazy & fairly unmusical, so it was only ever used to slice eggs.

Interesting to find these things out.
