Marion - I Go To Sleep

Anyone who knows me well, knows that I love Marion's version of 'I Go To Sleep'. Easily in my top 5 of girl singers, Marion really knew how to create a certain 'tension' on camera. Larry Page produced this version of the song; listen to the arrangement, with that crashing piano... it sounds massive.

Not sure why DLT (aka the Hairy Cornflake) is lurking about in the background at the beginning (who let him into the studio?), but the wonderful Uschi Nerke makes up for that.

  1. I hadn't heard of Marion. She definitely creates a sense of drama in that song and video. I like the bold monochrome colours too.

  2. Hey Andrea, glad Marion was new to you. I always like a good recommendation too.

You're right about the drama and the monochrome... it just couldn't be any other way, could it?

  3. There's a cool Marion LP called "El Condor Pasa: Die Grossen Erfolge" -- I think this means "greatest hits." Nice Loog Oldham style production as I recall. There's an intro part to this one song that I've been trying to "sample" but it just never works out.

  4. Lightactivity - yes, I know the album you mean... my German's not all that great, but yes, it's a greatest hits comp. Shame 'I Go To Sleep' isn't on there, though.

Larry Page did quite a lot of production for her, back in the day. Loog Oldham moved in very similar circles, so perhaps there was a bit of an influence there? Hmm.
