Yes, it's taken literally months to get the final podcast done, but hopefully you can see my reasoning. I've been super-busy with recording stuff for Ghost Box and getting all the behind-the-scenes stuff done for the launch of the Cafe Kaput label, that I just haven't had the time. I guess I could have thrown something together, but that would have probably ended up a bit half-arsed… and I'm not really a half-arsed kind of person. I decided to postpone it until I could spend a day giving the podcast my full attention and have a bit of fun with it.
As is now customary, you can download the mp3 here:
Cafe Kaput Podcast number 6!
Hope it was worth the wait! Enjoy. And yes, Bruce Forsyth is featured. Really.
- Jb.
Thanks for that. I never tire of hearing the Long Good Friday soundtrack. The only other Francis Monkman (solo) track I'm aware of is the equally excellent Achievements of Man. Is there other stuff I should be looking for?
ReplyDeleteAnother excellent podcast! The Forsyth track was hilarious! Really enjoyed the tracks from your upcoming album - good to get a taste of it :)
ReplyDeleteMatt - there's a nice album on KPM that Francis Monkman did, called 'Classical Concussion'. If you like the Long Good Friday OST, that's worth a listen as it's basically the same musician team (and same era). Also, there's another KPM called 'Predictions' which contains some good material.
ReplyDeleteAndrea - thanks! i think a few people are scowling at me for planting that Bruce Forsyth song in their heads, but... I had to do it.
The thing with the Denham album is that it was really difficult to choose a couple 'representative' tracks from it, because I wrote them all through other people's eyes, as it were. They're all wildly different, even if the production is consistent. Hopefully it'll appeal to those who like the darker end of The Advisory Circle, but who knows.

Another brilliant podcast!
ReplyDeletewonderful stuff as ever Jon. Brucie has never sounded so good! Thanks for bringing it to our attention.
ReplyDeleteHey.. never realized you remixed sally shapiro by the way? Bit of a fan of her's..
Thanks Mr SoundAwareness. As ever, a pleasure.
ReplyDeleteKev - Cheers too. Brucie's had his moments. Not many, granted, but that one in particular. ;)) Yes, I've remixed Sally Shapiro's song 'Skating In The Moonshine'... I've also mastered some of her albums / singles. Sally and Johan are fantastic songwriters and I've always enjoyed working with them.
You dabble in electro pop then sir? Most impressive..
ReplyDeleteHas she got any new material in the pipeline?
I'm currently writing/producing a girl band from L.A. at the moment. Very electro pop type stuff... I'm contemplating taking my first steps into this 'Hauntology' type material.. ;) Not sure i'll be as spiffing as you ghost box lads though.. Your all very inspirational indeed..
Kev - Not sure what's happening with Sally right now, but I think they are writing new stuff all the time; Johan's quite prolific.
ReplyDeleteI guess I just like lots of things and it's all just 'music' to me. I don't really have a genre filter as such.
Good luck with the writing and producing. Staying creative is the most important thing.
Jon, thanks so much for the recommendation of the Classical Concussion album. It turns out it has a track I've been looking for, that is on the background of a cinema ad in the recent Moon Wiring Club Ice Cream Sunstroke mix!
ReplyDeleteHa! Superb. Always good to find a wanted track like that.
ReplyDeleteHe's a prankster, that Moon Wiring Club chappie.
This is really good! And Spacemen 3! Brilliant!
ReplyDeleteReally like the Denham tracks too.
Thanks Cthulhu. Spacemen 3? Absolutely. It was about time. Also very into Spectrum / Sonic Boom. For me, they're a direct continuation and development of a lot of the late '60s psych bands.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree, and I love Sonic Boom and Spectrum too. Spacemen 3 always wore their influences on their sleeves so to speak, and their Revolution is almost a total rip-off off this:

MC5! Definitely.
ReplyDeleteLoved this podcast! "Sorry love, don't get nothing for backing Britain in this game" *thrusts Forsyth chin* I tried to subscribe in iTunes via the RSS feed, but I don't think it works because your files are zips not mp3. If you link to media files like mp3, they will be recognised in the feed and then people can subscribe in iTunes, AKA podcasting. Don't know if Sendspace allows direct linking to MP3 (Dropbox is good, 2gb free space - I'm not a salesman!)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment and support, Bodyscanner. One thing, though - the SendSpace link this time around (for pod 6) was an mp3, rather than a zip, or at least it says so in my SendSpace manager.
ReplyDeleteWhen I come back to podcasting in the future, I'll look into the Dropbox thing. Thanks for the tip, it's much appreciated. :))
No, thank you Jb! The link above for #6 goes to a Sendspace download page not the actual file (url ending .mp3), iTunes needs a direct link which it can dl and put in the library ready to go onto an ipod when synched. It's not that important though as people can drag the files into iTunes anyway. All the best
ReplyDeleteAh, I see what you mean. ;)) Dropbox may be the way forward.
ReplyDeleteJb I downloaded all your Podcasts yesterday. What a fantastic collection they are. Very pleased to hear Sandi Shelton Youre gonna need me. Also Spacemen 3. A song I found recently is The Silencers by Patti Seymour. Listening to your podcasts I think you may like it. Def worth checking out.
ReplyDeleteAll the best to you Jb
