Sampling pioneer, genius producer of Human League, Synclavier wizard and Linn Drum fiend Martin Rushent has died. A major influence of mine. Rest in peace.
As well as the more electronic stuff, I found out last night how instrumental he'd been in the recording career of the Stranglers. This at least partially explains how a band who sometimes seemed like Jeremy Clarkson's idea of punk, could actually turn out some thrilling pop moments.
Martin Rushent had the ability to bring the pop out in just about anyone he worked with, while retaining the artists' direction. That kind of skill I've always found really interesting (but then, I've always really loved pop music).
I always had mixed feelings about his work in my younger days. Two bands I loved at the time Altered Images & The Human League, I felt he changed their style a bit too much. But still the albums produced (Pinky Blue & Dare) were great and i listened and still listen to them. Great video, great producer. Thank you
Sad news. Only 63. RIP.
